On the occasion of UNESCAP 78th Session, Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives in collaboration with Embassy of Pakistan in Bangkok, Statistics Division of UNESCAP, UNICEF and UNFPA organized a Side Event on "Building a More Resilient Future with Inclusive Civil Registration and Vital Statistics

On the occasion of UNESCAP 78th Session, Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives in collaboration with Embassy of Pakistan in Bangkok, Statistics Division of UNESCAP, UNICEF and UNFPA organized a Side Event on "Building a More Resilient Future with Inclusive Civil Registration and Vital Statistics - Strengthening Linkages with the Health Sector” on 23 May 2022. Dr. Muhammad Asif (Chief Health Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives) moderated the session. He elaborated the achievements and current initiatives for digitalization of CRVS system in Pakistan including CRVS Reform Package, Legislation Reforms and National Strategic Framework for acceleration and enhancement of CRVS in Pakistan and strengthening linkages with the health sector for notification of births and deaths and Increased awareness of governments in Asia and the Pacific of the merits of closer collaboration between the health sector and CRVS and showcasing the progress in this area from Pakistan.
Ms. Faiza Haseeb (Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Pakistan in Bangkok) dwelt light on the significance of CRVS system and explained about the National framework of CRVS reforms in Pakistan. Mr. Usama Bilal from NADRA-Pakistan informed the participants about the digitalization of CRVS data in Pakistan. He also shared the features of CRVS APP developed by NADRA in order to record real time events.
Ms Faiza Haseeb, Deputy Head of Mission and Deputy Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Mr. Osama Bilal, Director CRMS NADRA, Ms Daniela Luciani, Chief Child Protection UNICEF, Mr. Muqaddar Shah, Programme Analyst, UNFPA and Mr. Martin W. Bratschi Technical Director (CRVS) Public Health Programs, Vital Strategies participated the side event as speakers. Dr Chev Mony, Deputy Director of planning and health information department from Ministry of Health Cambodia shared and highlighted the experiences of Cambodia in health sector mainstreaming for an optimal CRVS. Mr. Steven Schwartz, Ph.D. Director, Division of Vital Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S also spoke on the occasion.
In closing remarks, Dr. Muhammad Asif appreciated the efforts of TSU-CRVS M/oPD&SI for implementation of reforms package in Pakistan and also suggested to activate the CR8 forum for developing inter sectoral coordination with SAARC countries. He extended his thanks to all participants.
