Planning Commission agreed to grant 6 months’ extension to projects of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and Basic Education Community Schools (BECS) subject to approval by the Cabinet.
This was agreed upon during a meeting here in Islamabad on Thursday between Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar and Federal Minister for Federal Education & Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood after the latter called on the former. Senior officials from both ministries were also present in the meeting.
Federal Minister for Planning said that Planning Commission is ready to grant extension to both projects for another 6 months after the Cabinet’s approval. He stated that Ministry of Education should submit revised PC-1 to initiate the process of approval. He desired that teachers of two programs should work hard to impart quality education to students. He assured that if teachers will work hard and show results then there will be no lay-offs in both programs.
Both the Ministers agreed to chalk out modalities to merge NCHD and BECS to avoid duplication of tasks and functions and for efficient contribution towards human resource development in the country. Minister for Planning directed the officials concerned to come up with a plan for merging the two projects.
