Federal Minister calls for cooperation in energy development.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar has said that Pakistan appreciates Austrian cooperation in different hydroelectric and energy projects across the country adding that both countries enjoy cordial and friendly relations.

The Minister was talking to Ambassador of Austria, Ms. Brigita Blaha, who called on him at Islamabad on Tuesday. Member Energy was also present in the meeting.

The Federal Minister said that the Government is focusing on producing energy through hydroelectric projects and indigenous coal to minimize dependence on imported fuel to reduce cost and provide relief to the masses. The Minister hoped that energy prospects would improve with the completion of various ongoing power projects. He expressed optimism that Austria would also cooperate in providing technical expertise and transfer of necessary technology for capacity building of domestic companies.

The Minister said that Pakistan has huge potential in hydro and renewable power generation and we expect Austria to invest in various energy sector initiatives. Ms. Brigita Blaha appreciated the vision of the Government and assured full cooperation in clean energy development.
