World Bank Delegation Called on Secretary Planning Commission MR. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui

A senior delegation from World Bank, (climate change Non-lending technical assistance mission) called on secretary planning commission, Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, to discuss environment, climate and role of planning commission.
They discussed collaboration program to make PC-1 more responsive to climate change and environment through joint working on raising awareness and capacity building.
Secretary planning appreciated the efforts of World Bank mission and their contribution towards meeting the environment and climatic challenges.
According to Global Climate Risk index issued by the German watch, Pakistan is the 5th most vulnerable country in the world and has seen huge death tolls and financial losses amounting to 2.2 billion dollars due to extreme climatic events. Pakistan is amongst the smallest contributors to the global carbon emissions but is affected the most by the extreme weather events and climate change.
The secretary planning commission, Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui shared the initiatives of the federal government to meet the environmental challenges. He said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has approved launching of Green Pakistan Programme aimed to increase the forest cover of the country and Revival of Wildlife Resources in Pakistan. The federal government has also established a Climate Change Reporting Unit in Ministry of Climate Change; maintained Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.
He also said that World Bank is the oldest partner towards working on critical climatic issues and that it must involve some tangible activities where youth could reasonably take part.
He also said that Pakistan’s Vision 2025 stresses to promote long term sustainability, conservation and protection of natural resources.
The representative of World Bank said his organization stands by Pakistan to deal with the challenges of climate change.
