PROFILE:

Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh is an economist of international repute with over 30 years of experience in economic policymaking, management and implementation.

His work experience includes:
• Harvard University, Cambridge
• World Bank
• Minister for Finance, Planning and Development, Sindh
• Member of the Senate of Pakistan ( Elected three times)
• Federal Minister for Investment and Privatization, Pakistan
• General Partner, International Investment Fund
• Minister for Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Planning & Development

Dr. Shaikh's international experience includes assignments in Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Romania, Czech Republic, Iran, Kuwait, Argentina, Bangladesh, Jordan, Qatar, Malta, Botswana, Tanzania, Ghana and Libya. 

He had a highly successful tenure as Minister for Finance, Planning & Development in Sindh Province during 2000-2002 and was the architect of the financial recovery of Sindh.

His three years as the Federal Minister for Privatization & Investment were the most successful in Pakistan’s history. 34 transactions worth over US $ 5 billion were completed transparently and foreign Investment increased from $ 1 Billion to $ 5 Billion.

Dr. Shaikh was awarded Pakistan’s "Man of the Year" in 2004 by the business community in recognition of his contributions to the country.

After leaving the Government in early 2006, Dr. Shaikh was General Partner of an international investment company, headquartered in New York, which set up a $1.38 Billion fund for investments in Asia.

Dr. Shaikh has a Ph. D in economics and has authored many publications including a book on Argentina.

Dr. Shaikh has recently won election for third term as Member, Senate of Pakistan.

He is Pakistan's Minister for Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Planning & Development since March 2010.
